Metrorail clears train accident scene

Pretoria - The railway line, on the Mabopane to Pretoria route, is now fully operational and train operations are back to normal this after two trains, enroute to Pretoria collided on Friday leaving one dead and scores injured. 

"The loss of a young life is regrettable, it was indeed a sad day for all affected by this accident that took place between Akasiaboom and Wintersnest," said Gauteng Metrorail Provincial Manager Tembela Kulu.

Most of the 266 commuters that were sent to various hospitals received immediate medical attention and have been discharged.

"Only four commuters are still under observation and it is anticipated that they will be discharged soon," Kulu said.

Prasa Group CEO, Lucky Montana and Metrorail senior management visited the family of the deceased to offer condolences and support. 

Kulu said a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and the cost of the damages amounts to R18 million. - BuaNews
