Pretoria – A memorial lecture is to be held in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, on Saturday, to honour the late Sowetan photo journalist Elijar Mushiana, who earned great respect through his consummate photo-journalism.
Mushiana, 41, died on Sunday at the Medi-Clinic in Polokwane after a short-illness.
A former correspondent of Limpopo Mirror and a founder member of the Vhembe Media Association, Mushiana was the photographic head of the Sowetan's bureau in Polokwane at the time of his death.
Communications Minister Faith Muthambi is set to deliver the memorial lecture, which will also celebrate and reflect on Mushiana’s life as a versatile photo journalist who played a role of being a facilitator of development in the country.
Before joining the Sowetan, Mushiana established the Northern Independent Press Association (NIPA), of which he was a director.
Born at Tshimbupfe village near Vuwani, Mushiana developed an interest in photography at an early age, which lead him to win many awards during his journalism career which lasted for more than 20 years.
In 2012, Mushiana won the Sowetan Photographer of the Year Award. - SAnews.gov.za
