Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has received the resignation of Judge Francis Legodi, a member of the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of Fraud, Corruption, Impropriety or Irregularity in the Strategic Defence Procurement Packages, commonly referred to as the Arms Deal.

Zuma appointed the Commisison on 4 November 2011. Judge Willie Seriti of the Supreme Court of Appeal was appointed to chair the Commission.  Other members of the Commission appointed to assist Judge Seriti were Judge President Hendrick Musi and Judge Legodi.

“The President has received the resignation of Judge Legodi with deep regret and after consulting with him as to the reasons for his resignation has decided to accede to the judge’s request.

“Judge Legodi has tendered his resignation for personal reasons and has requested that such reasons remain confidential,” said the Presidency in a statement.

It added that Zuma was satisfied that the resignation of Judge Legodi “did not impact negatively on the integrity of the commission nor any of its functions, albeit that the timing poses certain challenges”.

The President thanked Judge Legodi for his contribution and wished him well in his future endeavours. – SAnews.gov.za
