MEC Yawa expresses condolences to accident victims

North West - North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, has expressed condolences to the families of three Kaizer Chiefs supporters who were killed in an accident on Saturday.

The soccer supporters were on their way to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium to watch the Telkom Charity Cup when the taxi they were traveling in overturned near Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday morning.

Two people died and eight others were injured in the accident. Five patients were rushed to the Brits Provincial Hospital where they are in a critical condition.

In a statement, MEC Yawa urged motorists to observe a safe following distance and practice driving cautiously in the wet weather.

Meanwhile, five people, believed to be employees of the provincial Department of Health, died in a car accident on Friday.

The five died in a head-on collision between a private Isuzu and a Nissan double cab bakkie belonging to the department between Vyburg and Ganyesa.

A total of nine people were involved in the accident.
