MEC Lesufi condemns disruption of schooling

Thursday, July 23, 2015

Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has condemned in the strongest terms the disruption of schooling caused by members of the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in the Soweto and Mamelodi.

Cosas has disrupted schooling in these areas and forcefully removed learners from classes to join their march to the Department of Basic Education offices in Pretoria.

MEC Lesufi said he had noted reports of intimidation and disorder caused by members of Cosas.

While he upheld everyone’s right to peaceful demonstration as provided for in the Constitution, he did not support anyone engaged in violent acts.

MEC Lesufi was disappointed by the conduct of Cosas as this went against the agreement the MEC had with the leadership of Cosas not to engage in any illegal activities during their marches. – SAnews.gov.za
