Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development Lebogang Maile has condemned the recent looting at foreign owned spaza shops in Katlehong.

“We urge all communities to desist from any act of attacking anybody, including foreign nationals,” MEC Maile said in statement on Wednesday.

He said the provincial government is committed to resolving pertinent issues affecting the economy and encourages maximum cooperation between all parties involved, particularly the communities.

“Through the implementation of Transformation, Modernization and Revitalization Programme, the Gauteng government has so far made great strides in its efforts to radically transform the township economy and support of local entrepreneurs,” MEC Maile said.

He encouraged law enforcement agencies from local municipalities and at provincial level to ensure that peace and stability is restored in townships. – SAnews.gov.za
