MEC acts against bullying at Eldorado Secondary

Friday, March 16, 2018

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has called for disciplinary action against learners and teachers at Eldorado Secondary following a video making the rounds on social media depicting pupils in a brawl with a teacher nowhere in sight.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and all those involved should face disciplinary action. The department has a policy of zero-tolerance against bullying or any form of misconduct. In this respect, the department calls on the SGB [school governing body] and the principal to enforce the school’s Code of Conduct,” said MEC Lesufi.

The teachers, who were on strike at the time, were also called out by the department, as learners were not adequately supervised at the time.

The incident occurred during a time when some educators had withdrawn labour and reporting at the district. The educators have since returned to work and will face disciplinary action.
