Lebowakgomo - Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale says he and his provincial government are committed to continue working with the national government administration team.

Mathale delivered his State of the Province Address in Lebowakgomo on Thursday, marking the opening of the provincial Legislature.

“We want to re-affirm our commitment to working with the national intervention team and we remain steadfast to this commitment.

“We are working together with the National Treasury to strengthen the Provincial Treasury. We’ve upgraded the post structure of the executive management of the Provincial Treasury to enable it to respond to its mandate adequately,” he said.

Five departments were placed under Section 100 (1) by President Jacob Zuma to manage the province plagued by allegations of corruption and maladministration.

This was preceded by a Cabinet decision in 2011 to implement the intervention in the Limpopo government.

Section 100 (1) gives members of the national executive the powers to take over management and administration of the affected provincial departments.

The five departments placed under Section 100 are the Provincial Treasury, Education, Roads and Transport, Public Works, Health and Social Development.

One of the critical issues highlighted by the intervention team was the need to strengthen the structural capacity of the provincial Treasury.

Mathale said the fact that they were working with the National Treasury through the intervention team and that there is progress in their work to stabilise their finances, undermined any allegation concerning a pending legal challenge against the intervention. - SAnews.gov.za
