Pretoria - The Marikana Commission of Inquiry resumes with its hearings in Centurion this morning.
The inquiry was established by President Jacob Zuma to investigate the events from 9 - 16 August 2012, which led to the deaths of at least 44 people, more than 70 people being injured and approximately 250 people being arrested in Marikana.
The commission commenced sitting on October 1 and has sat for over 100 days. The term of the commission has also been extended and is supposed to conclude on October 31.
Last week, the lawyers representing the miners filed an urgent application in the North Gauteng High Court to compel government to pay the lawyers representing the miners.
The Presidency, the Justice Department and the Legal Aid Board are opposing the application. A judgment on whether they will recive the funding will be made on Thursday. – SAnews.gov.za
