Manhunt for Mandla Hlatshwayo's killers

Monday, May 15, 2017

Pretoria - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has assured all South Africans that the police will do everything in their power to apprehend the killers of Mandla Hlatshwayo.

The Jozi fm DJ and former Generations actor was brutally killed in an armed robbery in the early hours of this morning in Soweto.

It's understood that Hlatshwayo and a friend tried to stop four men from robbing a woman outside a pub when they were both shot dead.

“It is sad that we are losing role models in society when our country so desperately needs them to inspire our youth,” Minister Mbalula said on Monday.

The Minister raised a concern about the number of guns that are circulating in South Africa.

As such, he said, he plans on speeding the processes of the Firearms Control Act which provides the legal framework for the registration and control of firearms.

Minister Mbalula said he will push for the Bill to control the impact of firearms, as well as the limitation of firearms licences in society.

“We need the reduction of firearms in circulation and the non-proliferation of both legal and illegal firearms.”

Meanwhile, Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC, Faith Mazibuko, paid tribute to Hlatshwayo, saying the arts and culture industry has lost a hero, who also died as a hero by trying to save the lives of innocent people.

“His young life was taken too soon. He touched the lives of many South Africans through his acting and also as a radio presenter. We’ve lost a great actor, radio presenter, and also a great musician famously known for his house music compilations,” the MEC said. - SAnews.gov.za
