Mama Winnie's moving funeral draws to a close

Saturday, April 14, 2018

The formal programme at the funeral of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela at Orlando Stadium drew to a close, just as the rain began to fall.

The family and dignitaries left the stage after a fitting tribute to the late struggle icon.

Thousands of mourners are now making their way out of the stadium towards the park and ride facilities. Others continue to sing and pay their final respects to the Mother of the Nation.

The funeral procession is now moving to the Fourways Memorial Park, for a private burial.

The procession will take the N1 freeway towards William Nicol Drive, turn left into Cedar Drive and into the private road of the memorial park.

Earlier President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the eulogy, saying Nomzamo Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has died, but she is not gone.

Others who paid tribute to Mama Madikizela-Mandela included her daughters Zenani Mandela-Dlamini and Zindzi Mandela and a host of international guests. – SAnews.gov.za
