Cape Town - With the country set to host the FIFA World Cup in June, the year 2010 is truly a year of action, said President Jacob Zuma during his State of the Nation speech today in Parliament.
"We have spent many years planning for this World Cup. We only have three months to go and we are determined to make a success of it," he said, adding that the infrastructure, security and logistics were all in place to ensure a successful cup.
He urged all South Africans to ensure a successful tournament in honour of former president Nelson Mandela, who was central in helping the country win the 2010 bid.
South Africans should also get behind Bafana Bafana, but most important of all they should rush out now to buy tickets to attend the games, he said.
Quoting from Mandela's historic speech at the Rivonia Treason Trial, Zuma said all South Africans should recommit themselves to reconciliation, national unity, non-racialism and building a better future together.
He dedicated his State of the Nation address to all the country's heroes and heroines, "sung and unsung, known and unknown".
"Let us work together to make this year of action a successful one for our country," said Zuma.
