The Judicial Commission of Inquiry Into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, known as the Madlanga Commission, is expected to resume its hearings today.
The Commission had gone into recess from Thursday, 3 September 2026.
“Upon the resumption of its public hearings [today], the Commission will shift focus to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department [JMPD], one of the law enforcement agencies listed in its terms of reference.
“On Tuesday, Day 173, the Commission will hear testimony regarding the infiltration of the JMPD by criminal networks, and collusion between JMPD officers and criminal syndicates,” Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said.
The Commission was established to investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025, relating to criminality, political interference and corruption within the criminal justice system.
It is expected to file its final report to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 16 November 2026, instead of the end of August after the reporting deadline was extended.
