Pretoria – Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said the late former President Nelson Mandela led the country with graciousness and assertiveness.
Mandela passed away on Thursday night at his Houghton home in Johannesburg. President Jacob Zuma informed the nation and the world of the former President’s passing in a televised address last night.
“As members of your governing team then, you taught us to rely on the force and eloquence of our moral argument and not the strength of our numbers,” Peters said of Madiba.
She said the passing on of Madiba evoked a deep sense of sadness in all South Africans.
“You inspired us from behind the thick prison walls and became responsible for our budding political activism during the turbulent 1970/80s, that blossomed into the leadership we are expected to discharge to your nation and the world even beyond your life,” she said.
The South African National Parks (SANParks) had also joined the world in mourning the death of the iconic leader.
“It is befitting to pass our heartfelt condolences to Madiba’s family and the country as a whole,” Chief Executive Officer of SANParks David Mabunda said. – SAnews.gov.za
