Pretoria - North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Desbo Mohono, is expected to hand over water reticulation infrastructure, fencing and 100 goats valued at R1.3 million to Bray Co-operative on Friday.

Situated in Bray in the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality, almost 200km west of Vryburg, the farm was purchased in 1998 through government’s Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development (LRAD) programme, which was designed to help previously disadvantaged citizens to access land specifically for agricultural purposes.

The size of the farm is 1 846 hectares, and it has 74 beneficiaries comprising 34 men, 16 women and 24 youth.

The provincial department has for the current financial year set aside a budget for the co-operative, and more than R1 million has already been spent for drilling, testing and equipping of a new borehole, purchasing of two diesel engines, construction of two engine rooms, two new reservoirs, five drinking troughs, and a 12km pipeline.

“Our goals as the department is to improve livestock production in this area, and to generate sustainable income for these beneficiaries in order to uplift their living standard,” said Mohono.

He said the provision of goats to this co-operative will go a long way in ensuring that the goals set for this co-operative are achieved.

As part of the day’s activities, Primary Animal Health Care services will be rendered for livestock already on the farm, through the recently launched mobile clinics. - SAnews.gov.za
