Pretoria - Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan has encouraged learners to apply for identity documents during her visit to two Cape Town schools on Monday.

Chohan visited the Belgravia High School and Ned Dorman High School in Athlone, Cape Town, where she stressed the importance of applying for an ID.

She reminded the learners that they were required to have their IDs for their Grade 12 final exams and that it was also needed to access social services.

The Department of Home Affairs deployed mobile offices and officials to the schools to help with ID applications.

As part of a community outreach programme, mobile offices will also be stationed at the Vangate Shopping Mall on 28 January to assist other learners with their ID applications, and to offer the community services rendered by the department.
