Monday, November 12, 2012

Pretoria - The Department of Social Development in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will on Wednesday launch the State of the World Population Report.

The report will be released globally on the same day.

Themed By Choice, Not By Chance: Family Planning, Human Rights and Development - the report looks at key issues relating to the achievement of the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 which speak to child health and maternal health, respectively, with a specific focus on family planning.

The Report also highlights that every year thousands of women die unnecessarily from unintended and often unwanted pregnancies. It also looks at how children's health is compromised when mother's pregnancies are not adequately spaced.

Minister for Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, is expected to deliver the key note address at the launch. - SAnews.gov.za
