Pretoria - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu will on Wednesday release the report of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).
The RTI Commission of Inquiry was appointed to investigate and report on the recruitment process which resulted in the death of eight prospective candidates participating in a fitness test conducted on 27 December 2012.
During his State of the Province Address this year, Premier Mchunu announced that the RTI Commission had finished its work. He undertook to study the report and act on it speedily. The premier said in a statement that he had received the report from the RTI Commission of Inquiry on 1 July.
He said he was glad the commission had finally finished its work after delays caused by requests from commissioners who wanted to interrogate more evidence.
“As government we attached importance to thoroughness in the execution of the work of this nature. Some in other quarters used our attention to detail to create the impression that we were deliberately prolonging the anguish of the families of the victims,” said Premier Mchunu. - SAnews.gov.za
