KZN government mourns passing of Inkosi Mathaba

Pretoria – The KwaZulu-Natal Government has sent condolences to the family of Inkosi Khayelihle Mathaba and members of eMacambini community following the tragic death of Inkosi Mathaba.

Inkosi Mathaba died last night in a road accident in Nkwalini, near Melmoth. Full details of the accident are not available at this stage, but it is believed that the incident occurred around 11.30pm on Saturday. However, the accident was only discovered early this morning.

Mathaba was a former Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and Inkosi of eMacambini traditional community.

Both the KZN MEC for Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, have paid tribute to the late Mathaba.

“Inkosi Mathaba will be sorely missed by the community he served with dedication … as well by the province’s institution of traditional leadership.

“We have worked with Inkosi Mathaba closely in his capacity as Inkosi of eMacambini Traditional Council… and his during his tenure as an MPL in the KZN Legislature,” said MEC Dube-Ncube.

MEC Mchunu said they are saddened by the loss of Inkosi Mathaba.

“While we do not have the full details of the accident at this stage, his loss is a sad reminder to all of us to commit ourselves to doing all in our power to reduce the scourge of road accidents in our province.

“On behalf of government, we wish to send our deepest condolences to the family of the late Mathaba and the members of eMacambini community,” said MEC Mchunu. – SAnews.gov.za
