KZN donates 20 computers to rural school

Pretoria – The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has donated computers to a rural school near Pietermaritzburg.

Handing over 20 used computers to the school on Tuesday, Ina Cronjé, the MEC for Finance in the province, urged learners of Masijabule High School at Swayimane to look after the computers.

“I am especially happy because in 2004, I personally came to the school when there was absolutely nothing here, so we initiated the project and ended up with this beautiful school - much more than we envisaged at the time.

“It makes us proud that we are now handing over 20 computers in a beautiful computer-room that is fit for the purpose,” Cronjé said.

The donation was well received by the school’s principal, Mthetho Ngcobo, who said the donation would bring his learners on par with their peers form other schools.

The donation brought a learner, Samukelisiwe Zondi, 17, to tears.

“As a learner coming from a rural community, computers are too far from us. We only see them on the media, and we did not know that one day we will be able to touch and actually work on it. We will use these facilities to the best of our abilities and we wish for opportunities like this to keep on coming,” she said. – SAnews.gov.za
