JSC names candidates recommended for positions on the bench

Pretoria - The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the candidates it recommended to President Jacob Zuma for vacant positions on the bench.

Interviews with candidates for vacant judges' positions in the various divisions of the High Court were concluded last week, after which the Chief Justice met with the President and presented the JSC's recommendations.
Two vacancies in the Eastern Cape High Court were advertised, the JSC said.
The JSC recommended that the President should appoint Advocate Murray John Lowe SC and Buyiswa Majiki.

For the two vacancies for judges of the Electoral Court, the JSC recommended the appointment of Judge Dimpheletse Seun Stanley Moshidi; and Judge Willem Lotter Wepener, it added.

The JSC also recommended that Zuma should appoint Judge Achmat Naaim Jappie as Deputy Judge President of the KwaZulu-Natal High Court.

With regards to the vacancies in the North and South Gauteng High Court it was recommended that Advocate David Stephanus Fourie SC be appointed as a Judge of the North and South Gauteng High Court.

Following interviews, the JSC also recommended that Judith Innes Cloete, Mokgoatji Josiah Dolamo, Babalwa Pearl Mantame, Advocate Owen Lloyd Rogers SC and Advocate Ashton Schippers SC should be appointed as judges of the Western Cape High Court.

In addition, it was recommended that the President appoint Acting Judge President Basheer Waglay as Judge President of the Labour Courts. - SAnews.gov.za
