Intriguing jazz at Soweto Theatre

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Pretoria – The Soweto Theatre will this weekend host the most intriguing jazz sessions with internationally-acclaimed and SAMA award-winning jazz sensation, Tutu Puoane, and the evergreen Gauteng Jazz Orchestra.

For a R200 entrance fee, the event on Saturday is an early Christmas present for jazz lovers.

The gig is supported by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation through its Creative Industries Music Strategy.

Belgian-based Puoane is a talented performer, who has impressed critics in Europe and has performed with the likes of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, one of Europe’s leading Orchestra bands.

Her first two albums have seen her walk away with two SAMAs for Best Traditional Jazz Album in 2010 and 2011.

Puoane’s recent offering is Breathe. It was recorded in Europe and she is expected to perform it with the Orchestra.

According to the organisers, having secured and put together such a tantalizing offering is a scoop for Gauteng.

Puoane will share her experience and knowledge with the local Orchestra before their 1-day performance on Saturday.
