Friday, March 16, 2018

The Department of Trade and Industry will host an Intellectual Property (IP) colloquium to find the common best practice on issues related to technology commercialisation, which can then be shared across the industry.

The two-day colloquium, which will get underway on Monday, will also deal with issues of technology commercialisation and will cover key areas of the IP development and protection, acquisition, exploitation and management.

“It will further present the technology commercialisation process relevant to early stage and growth companies such as product-market fit, knowledge-for-equity structures, and access to early-stage venture funding, establishing early customer relationships and creating channels to market,” said Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies on Friday.

Industry experts from technology brokers, technology consultants, commercialisation specialists, IP Merchant Banks, IP law firms as well as inventors and venture capitalists are expected to attend the colloquium at the Saint George Hotel Conference Centre.

The dti will hold the colloquium in collaboration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). - SAnews.gov.za
