Pretoria - Various Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers will engage with communities on government’s Nine-Point Plan as a “big push” to ignite economic growth during the National Imbizo Focus Week.

From next week Monday, government will embark on the National Imbizo Focus Week which will run until 10 April under the theme: “Together we move South Africa forward”.

Izimbizo are two-way, unmediated and interactive information sharing platforms, a dialogue between government and people aimed at instilling confidence in robust, participatory democracy, said the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) on Wednesday.

“Imbizo Focus Week will afford political principals an opportunity to communicate government-led efforts to stimulate and grow the South African economy, and also provide comprehensive details on the expected outcome of implementing the nine-point plan,” it said.

The Nine-Point Plan has three types of interventions that help to grow the economy - job drivers, enablers and cross cutters.

Imbizo Focus Week will also profile local government successes and coincides with the final registration weekend ahead of the 2016 Municipal Elections.

The focus week is also set to coincide with the commemoration of Freedom Month.

Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi will lead the opening of the week in Lephalale at the Ga Seleka Community hall in Limpopo.

The Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will close the Imbizo Focus Week on 10 April 2016. - SAnews.gov.za
