Pretoria – Another learner has died following the bakkie accident in Imbali township, which claimed the lives of seven learners from Fezokuhle Primary School in Pietermaritzburg.

Nonzuzo Zuma, 11, died on Monday at Edendale Hospital, where she was fighting for her life, following last month’s accident.

Nonzuzo was among the learners who were critically injured when a bakkie transporting 24 learners crashed over the edge of a road and into a house in Imbali.

Her death brings to eight the number of children who died as a result of the crash.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has expressed his condolences to Nonzuzo’s family.

“I’m very saddened by the passing of Nonzuzo. We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Zuma family,” Mchunu said.

He said government will spare no effort to ensure that road safety is improved, especially the transportation of learners to school. – SAnews.gov.za
