Home Affairs reclassified under JCPS cluster

Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs will be reclassified under the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, Cabinet has approved.

Previously, the department was classified as a general administration support services under the Governance and Administrative Cluster, said Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Jeff Radebe, briefing media following Cabinet’s fortnightly meeting.

“Cabinet approved that Department of Home Affairs (DHA) be reclassified under the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster.” 

Minister Radebe said the mandate of the department was to maintain a secure, accurate register of the identity and status of all within the borders of South Africa.

The department is also mandated to manage the immigration system, which impacts directly on national security, social cohesion and achievement of development goals.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster is chaired by Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and her deputy is Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko.

Departments in the cluster include the departments of Justice and Correctional Services, Police, Defence and Military Veterans and State Security. – SAnews.gov.za
