Johannesburg - To most who reside in the late former President Nelson Mandela's neighbourhood, he was not just their neighbour.
"He was our grandfather. And the thought of him not being around anymore is a scary one," said local resident Andrea, 21.
As tributes continue to pour in ever since the news that the former statesman has passed on, the street outside his Houghton home remained busy, with many people - most of them neighbours – flocking on his doorstep to leave flowers in his memory.
Andrea, who chose not to reveal her surname, said for her, it was a blessing to have lived in the same neighbourhood with Mandela.
Kenosi Machepa, Mandela's next door neighbour, said while she took pride in the fact that she and others lived next to an icon of the world, it was difficult to claim him as their own.
