Pretoria - A warrant officer has been arrested in connection with Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir’s case.

The officer is a member of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks.

“Today, just after 8am, the team arrested a 41-year-old warrant officer in connection with the same case for which Mr Krejcir and his associate were arrested.

“He was arrested on a warrant of arrest by the in investigation team,” SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said on Tuesday.

Krejcir and his co-accused alleged accomplice, Desai Lupondo, were arrested on Friday on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping for an incident which occurred in June.

Makgale said more arrests are expected.

Meanwhile, Krejcir will be moved from prison to a medical facility, after the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ruled that Krejcir's doctor is credible.

Krejcir’s doctor said he would experience renal failure if he was not taken to a medical facility immediately. He alleges that police tortured him when they arrested him on Friday.

Krejcir is currently fighting extradition to his home country, the Czech Republic, where he is wanted to serve an 11-year jail term for various charges. - SAnews.gov.za
