Hawks nab four suspects for drug dealing

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation on Thursday arrested four suspects aged between 29 and 44, for racketeering, money laundering, dealing and illegal possession of narcotics, steroids, prohibited firearms and ammunitions, as well as kidnapping.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court today.

Their arrest follows a swoop in Bryanston and neighbouring Jukskeipark, respectively.

The undercover operation follows intensive protracted investigations which has linked the group to various illegal activities.

It comes in the wake of the recent Budget Vote speech by Police Minister Bheki Cele on Tuesday in Parliament where he urged the Hawks and the SAPS to prioritise eradicating the supply and manufacturing of narcotics and substance abuse, as this serves as a driver of crimes against women and children and vulnerable groups in the country.

Amongst the arrested is a 38-year-old alleged henchman linked to the underworld security industry.

He allegedly used to be a bodyguard of a controversial underworld figure who is currently incarcerated for various serious offences.

An assortment of narcotics and incriminating paraphernalia were seized during the operation. – SAnews.gov.za
