Members of the public have been invited to provide written inputs on the proposed policy and policy direction to the Authority on licensing of unassigned high demand spectrum.
The Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services has gazetted the proposed policy and policy direction for public comments under Government Gazette 41935 of 27 September 2018.
“This follows Cabinet’s approval in August 2018 of the study conducted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to determine the spectrum requirements for the Wireless Open Access Network (WOAN) as envisaged in the Integrated ICT Policy White Paper which was approved by the Cabinet in September 2016.
“The CSIR study, which is part of the Gazette, has confirmed that a portion of the radio frequency spectrum can be assigned to the WOAN, with excess capacity going to the industry,” the department said.
The policy and policy direction will contribute to the implementation of the National Integrated ICT Policy White Paper which was approved by Cabinet in September 2016.
“Interested persons have until 8 November 2018 to provide written comments on the policy and policy direction from the date of publication of the Gazette,” the department said.
Written submission and queries on the policy and policy direction can be directed to the following person:
