Pretoria - Unidentified gunmen on Monday morning took control of the Congolese national TV (TRNC), according to the police of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"Unidentified gunmen seized control of local TRNC. They are still in the studio with hostages," the communications officer of the Congolese National Police (PNC), Col. Mwana Mputu, said.

"We have to deploy our reinforcements and by 30 minutes we resume the situation," he said, adding that "all exit doors are blocked by our members." Amid firing of heavy weapons and arms heard in the Congolese capital Kinshasa, traffic was completely paralyzed in the neighbourhoods surrounding the TRNC. – SAnews - Xinhua
