Pretoria – Top leaders from national, provincial and local government met at the Union Buildings, in Pretoria on Tuesday, to review progress made in delivering services to South African citizens.
President Jacob Zuma convened a President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) meeting, which was attended by a number of Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Premiers and Directors-General from various departments, and the leadership of the South African Local Government Association.
The PCC provides a platform for the three spheres of government to meet and discuss specific issues.
The meeting, President Zuma said, looked at various issues including a progress report on the registration of informal traders and spaza shops; provincial progress reports on the implementation of the Back to Basics programme; the implementation of the socio-economic impact assessment system; revitalisation of mining towns; the Integrated Urban Development Framework and a progress report on the work of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration.
“The reports indicated the state of municipalities… which ones are successful, and which ones have more challenges, and the plans to help those that are challenged,” said the President after the meeting. - SAnews.gov.za
