Government on drive to improve services

Friday, September 14, 2018

Government will engage communities on how to improve the public service as part of the fifth annual Thusong Service Centre Week.

Thusong Service Centres are one-stop centres for access to government services and information to potential sponsors and stakeholders across all spheres of government.

“We aim to ensure that through Integrated Mobile Outreach Services and other Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) platforms, government will maximise the reach and access to government services during Thusong Service Centre Week,” Minister of Communications, Nomvula Mokonyane said in a statement on Friday.

On Monday, government will mark the beginning of the Fifth Annual Thusong Service Centre Week.

The 2018 Annual Thusong Service Centre Week takes place in conjunction with Public Service Month under the theme ‘Thuma Mina: Taking Public Service to the People - We Belong, We Care, We Serve’.

The 2018 Thusong Service Centre Week activities will be celebrated in line with the centenary of the life of former President Nelson Mandela under the theme ‘Be the Legacy’.

To celebrate the life and contributions of struggle stalwart Albertina Sisulu, Thusong Dialogues will be implemented at identified Thusong Service Centres.

The Thusong programme has been reaching about six million beneficiaries every year. During 2017, a total of 74 activities were implemented.

The closing event for the Thusong Service Centre Week will be held on 21 September in the Western Cape at the Grabouw Thusong Centre. – SAnews.gov.za
