Gauteng welcomes New Year babies

Pretoria - As the world welcomed the new year, more than 70 babies were born in Gauteng hospitals on New Year’s Day, provincial health authorities said.  

Chris Hani Baragranath Hospital in Soweto led the pack with 48 babies (26 girls and 23 boys). Tembisa Hospital delivered 16 babies ( nine girls and seven boys). Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital delivered 11 babies (six girls and five boys).  The first baby was born at 01h10.Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital delivered seven (4 girls and three boys).  The first baby was born at 01h48.Mamelodi Hospital delivered 12 babies amongst the 12 babies, there are two sets of twins. The Tshwane District Hospital delivered one baby.   

 Bertha Gxowa Hospital delivered five babies with Thembisa. Other babies were delivered New Year babies were Leratong Hospital,   Pholosong Hospital, Sebokeng Hospital and Pholosong Hospital

"As the province, we are celebrating with the new mummies and daddies," said provincial spokesperson Lesemang Matuka.
