Gauteng Transport Commission to improve transport service delivery

Friday, September 26, 2014

Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will this afternoon officially open the Gauteng Transport Commission (GTC) offices in Bedfordview.

The Gauteng Transport Commission is an inter-governmental structure aimed at improving transport service delivery and providing a reliable, affordable, safe, accessible and sustainable transport system for the province.

The principal aims of the commission are to facilitate the implementation of the five-year Gauteng Transport Implementation Plan (GTIP5) and the 25-year Integrated Transport Master Plan (ITMP25).

The GTC will be overseen by a governing body consisting of the MEC for Roads and Transport and the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Transport in each participating municipality, supported by an advisory panel of transport specialists.

The GTC realises the idea of Gauteng as a city region, comprised of the province and the municipalities, which seamlessly flows from one city to another like from the City of Johannesburg to Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

It will also serve the needs of Gauteng residents by being a single entity, dealing with all major transport decisions that needs cohesive collaboration, coordination, integration and common decision making. – SAnews.gov.za
