Pretoria - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane says she has noted media reports pertaining to the MEC for Local Government and Housing Humphrey Mmemezi and has requested a formal response from him before making a determination.

The reports include allegations of damage to a government vehicle and the apparent misuse of a government credit card.

"The Premier views these allegations in a serious light, and has therefore requested a formal response from the MEC," said the Premier's spokesperson Xoli Mngambi.

Mngambi said upon receipt of a formal reply from the MEC, the Premier will apply her mind and make a determination.

"It is important that we retain the significance of the legislative framework to bring about integrity when dealing with such matters. This approach will guarantee that due process is followed."

He said further communication on the matter will be pronounced upon completion of these processes.
