Pretoria - The Gauteng Provincial Government will assist the residents of Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, who have been displaced after a tornado hit the area.

Acting MEC of Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements, Qedani Mahlangu and the MEC of Social Development, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, visited the area to assess the damage after the tornado hit the area on Monday night, leaving one person injured and destroying homes.

“We may not be able to support everybody 100%, given government’s limited resources. However, we are aware that some people are affected more than others and this will be taken into consideration when providing assistance,” MEC Mahlangu said.

School children have been negatively affected by the tornado and the Gauteng Department of Education has been roped in to assist them.

MEC Mahlangu thanked the NGOs and churches that have been assisting the community. - SAnews.gov.za
