Funeral preparations for Skweyiya at advanced stage

Friday, April 20, 2018

Preparations for the funeral service and burial of Dr Zola Skweyiya are at an advanced stage, says the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC).

The IMC on State Funerals, which met on Thursday, deliberated on arrangements for the funeral service as well as the burial of Dr Skweyiya.

Dr Skweyiya will be laid to his final resting place on Saturday at the Pretoria East Cemetery.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded Dr Skweyiya a Special Official Funeral Category 1 which includes military honours.

Since the President issued the declaration, South African flags across the country and abroad have been flying in a half-mast position as a sign that the country is in a mourning state.

The funeral service will be held at the Christian Revival Church (CRC), situated at the corner of Lynnwood and Solomon Mahlangu Roads in Pretoria.

The official programme will start at 8:30am. All who wish to bid farewell to Dr Skweyiya are welcome to attend.

The IMC has thanked all those who attended the memorial service at the Tshwane Events Centre on Wednesday as well as those who took time to send messages of condolence to the Skweyiya and Mazibuko families.

Members of the public are further encouraged to continue to sign the condolence books available at the following points:

-       International Ports of Entry (airports)

-       DIRCO Head Office at the OR Tambo Building in Pretoria

-       Parliament

-       Tuynhuys
