Pretoria - An independent investigation team has been set up to speedily assist with the investigation of medication and consumables in a transit site at Pelonomi Hospital, in the Free State.

The medication was discovered, on 18 July, by Free State Premier Ace Magashule and other dignitaries, who were participating at a clean-up campaign at the hospital in honour of the late former President Nelson Mandela.

Following the discovery of medication, Health MEC Dr Benny Malakoane and MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Sam Mashinini, held a meeting on Monday with the hospital management and the organised labour to outline the standard in which the investigation will unfold.

During the meeting, all parties agreed that whoever is responsible for the dumping of medication and consumables must take responsibility and face the consequences.

“This cannot be tolerated particularly when there has been reports on shortages of these items, stern action must be taken,” both MEC’s and stakeholders warned.

The independent investigation team will include imminent persons and experts in the health sector to assist in finding out what exactly happened. – SAnews.gov.za
