Pretoria – Learners at the Sindekile Intermediary School in Parys, Free State, have been awarded a brand new art media classroom equipped with 21 computers and an inter- active board that will be utilised for school projects.

In 2011, Kenny Theoane from Sindekile Intermediary School represented the Free State at the National Baswa Le Meetse competition. He scooped the first position in Poster Category.

Baswa Le Meetse is one of the projects of the Department of Water and Environmental Affairs’ 2020 Vision Programme aimed at educating learners about water resource management and promotion of water sector careers to address the scarce skills challenge.

Through this programme, learners are able to transfer the knowledge and skills to their families and communities and ultimately efficient use and protection of natural resource will be instilled and also that learners will choose water sector careers.

The classroom was handed over by the Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Rejoice Mabudafhasi this week.

“We are here today to congratulate Sindekile Intermediary School which is the national winner of the state of the art media classroom sponsored by MTN Foundation equipped with 21 computers, an inter- active board and R6000 cash prize.

“We would like to thank the principal and educators and the school governing body for their commitment, support and encouragement that they gave to this learner to participate in our educational programme,” she said.

The deputy minister said she wanted the school to become a model school in water and environmental management and that it will partake in the Eco Schools.

“Learners and educators of this school will be ambassadors of water and environment.”

Mabudafhasi thanked the MTN Foundation for partnering with the department on the 2020 Vision for Water Educational Programme.
