Free matric revision at Gauteng cinemas

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Pretoria - Gauteng matrics are being given the opportunity to prepare for their exams in an unusually fun way.

Free audio visual screenings of their learning material will be shown at cinemas.

The Gauteng Department of Education has partnered with Ster Kinekor to assist grade 12 learners before they sit for the finals.

The screenings are part of the Support the Class of 2010 campaign. They will take place from 18 to 22 October at the following malls: Brooklyn, Carnival City, East Rand, Eastgate, Fourways, Greenstone, Key West, Maponya, Randburg Cresta, Sandton City, Westgate and Wonder Park.

Department spokesperson Charles Phahlane said the topics that will be screened have been carefully selected to address those areas that learners usually struggle with during exams.

"These include organic chemistry, popular theories of mass extinction, financial maths, essay writing, transactional writing and calculus," Phahlane said.

Subjects to be screened include Maths, Maths Literacy, English First Additional Language, Accounting, Life Sciences and Physical Science.

Learners will not pay at the cinemas as tickets are free and available on a first-come first-served basis.

The department encouraged grade 12 learners to take advantage of this programme and visit cinemas closest to them as they have less than two weeks before the start the final exams.

"We urge parents, educators and communities to continue supporting all learners, especially the matric class of 2010."
