Pretoria - The Gauteng Health Department has temporarily closed the Folateng Unit at Pretoria West Hospital to allow the process of replacing chiller plants to continue seamlessly, in an effort to improve the quality of healthcare offered at the facility.

Department spokesperson Simon Zwane said the unit, which is mostly utilised by private doctors for gynae and obstetrics surgeries, will be closed for about 24 weeks.

"The contractors have already assessed the site and the process of installation will begin in due course. To accommodate patients, minor operations will be performed at Tshwane District Hospital," Zwane said.

During the temporary closure, theatre staff will be allocated to assist in other wards as well as at the Eye Clinic. Folateng permanent staff will be dispatched at other departments in the hospital. - SAnews.gov.za
