Pretoria – A service provider is to be appointed to investigate allegations of impropriety at the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC).
In a statement on Monday, National Treasury said it would help the FFC - which makes recommendations to Parliament, provincial legislatures, organised local government and other organs of state on financial and fiscal matters - appoint an external service provider to investigate the veracity of the allegations.
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan met with the Commission’s commissioners and staff on Friday after anonymous allegations of impropriety concerning staff members were received by the Ministry.
The allegations have been shared with the members of the Commission, said Treasury.
Meanwhile, the term of office of Deputy Chairperson Bongani Khumalo acting Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission ended on 31 August 2016.
The process of appointing a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson is underway.
In the meantime, the Commission has appointed Velile Mbethe as acting Chief Executive Officer while the process is being finalised. – SAnews.gov.za
