Thursday, May 8, 2014

Pretoria – The results of the 2014 general elections have started pouring in at the National Results Operating Centre in Pretoria.

Just over a quarter of the ballots have been counted thus far, with the African National Congress currently taking the lead, followed by the Democratic Alliance and then the Economic Freedom Fighters.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, 26 percent of the votes or 5755 of 22263 voting districts counted have been counted.

The total valid votes thus far are 3 236 536 with 43 749 spoilt votes.

As votes are counted, the leader board at the Results Operating Centre is continuously updated.

Last night Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Advocate Pansy Tlakula said the counting process would take place under the watchful eyes of party agents and observers.

She said the Electoral Commission was extremely pleased with the way in which voting proceeded throughout the country on Wednesday.
