Kabul - An explosion Tuesday rattled the western part of Afghan capital city of Kabul, killing at least 12 people and wounding 33 others.

An unidentified police official said at least 12 people were killed in the blast, which took place at 8am local time near the national parliament compound.

Afghan Interior Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar said the attack was targeted at civilians and details of casualties would be released later.

However, witnesses on the bombing site said the explosion might target NATO troops as a camp of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force is close to the site.

No group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.

The Interior Ministry said that a team has been sent to investigate the incident.
