The eThekwini Municipality has urged residents to take immediate precautions following a Level 4 disruptive rain warning issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS), which is in effect from Tuesday until Wednesday evening.
According to the forecast, widespread disruptive rainfall is expected across KwaZulu-Natal, with the eThekwini region among the areas expected to significantly be affected.
The municipality warned that widespread showers and thundershowers are anticipated, which could pose a serious risk to lives, property and infrastructure.
“The disruptive rainfall may result in flooding on settlements, roads, bridges, and low-lying areas. Poor visibility and slippery road surfaces are expected to make driving hazardous,” the municipality said in a statement.

Residents living in flood-prone areas, particularly informal settlements, have been urged to take the necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their families.
Motorists have also been advised to drive cautiously, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance on wet and slippery roads. Where possible, residents are encouraged to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

The weather warning remains subject to updates, and residents are encouraged to monitor the municipality's official communication platforms for the latest information.
The public has also been warned not to attempt to cross swollen rivers or streams, especially where water levels exceed ankle height.
