Pretoria - As millions of South Africans continue to cast their votes in the fifth Municipal Elections, Eskom has reassured the nation that the lights will stay on during the course of the day.
“As South Africans cast their votes in the Local Government Elections today, Eskom wishes to reassure the nation that its systems are ready and that the lights will stay on as we mark another significant day in our democracy,” said the power utility on Wednesday.
While a few minor incidents have been reported, voting in the 2016 Municipal Elections got off to a smooth and timely start at almost all of the voting stations across the country.
Eskom said generation performance has stabilised and load shedding has not been implemented for close to a year.
“We are ensuring that power supply remains unconstrained through our maintenance programme. We have worked hard to restore and stabilise the electricity distribution network around the country and we remain committed to ensuring that customers have a continuous supply of electricity.”
Eskom appealed to its customers to report electrical faults to the Eskom contact centre on 08600 37566 (24 hours) or text queries and account or metre numbers to 35328 (Elect).
“It is also important for communities to support our efforts towards the removal of illegal connections and installation of smart meters to ensure that we can accelerate the overall service level improvement,” said Eskom.
South Africans who have not yet cast their vote have until 7pm today to do so. – SAnews.gov.za
