Eskom CEO’s appointment at advanced stage

Thursday, June 5, 2014

Johannesburg - The appointment of a permanent CEO for Eskom is at an advanced stage, Eskom chairman Zola Tsotsi said on Thursday.

“The appointment is at an advanced stage, with a submission being made to the minister,” Tsotsi told media at Eskom’s Quarterly State of the System briefing.

This follows the resignation of former executive Brian Dames, who left the company at the end of March.

Collin Matjila had since been appointed as the acting CEO of Eskom as of 1 April.

Eskom is confident in the ability of Matjila to steer the company until a new executive is appointed, said Tsotsi.

Additionally, Eskom welcomed the appointment of former Western Cape Premier Lynne Brown as the new Minister for Public Enterprises, which is the shareholder department for Eskom.

“We welcome the new administration and wish them well,” Tsotsi said.

Minister Brown was recently appointed to the Public Enterprises portfolio following the inauguration of President Jacob Zuma for a second term last month.
