Eskom announces three new appointments

Pretoria - Eskom on Wednesday announced the appointment of a new financial director, managing director and managing director.

In a statement, the power utility's board said that Paul O'Flaherty had been appointed as the parastatal's new Finance Director with effect from 1 January 2010.

Dan Marokane has been appointed Managing Director (Primary Energy) from 12 January next year.

The third appointment is Bhabhalazi Bulunga as Managing Director of Human Resources. His appointment will come into effect on 1 February 2010.

O'Flaherty is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He joined the company in July 2007 from the Johannesburg-based construction company Group 5 where he spent a total of 5 years in a similar post. He was also Group 5's deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Before joining Group 5, he spent over ten years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in various capacities and ultimately serving as South African Head of Mining and Energy Audit Group.

Meanwhile, Marokane is the current Vice-President, Operations Division of PetroSA. He has been with PetroSA for 11 years. He is a Director of PetroSA Nigeria, PetroSA Europe and Brass Exploration, Nigeria.

Bulunga is currently the General Manager of Human Resources at South African Airways (SAA).

He has been with the carrier since 2007 and prior to that he was employed by BHP Billiton Ltd as manager of human resources, Mozal, Maputo, Mozambique and in October 2005 he was transferred to Richards Bay and appointed Manager, Human Resources for the Hillside and Bayside Smelters.

"The board and Executive Committee extends a warm welcome to these new colleagues as they join the leadership of Eskom - at an opportune time as we execute the company's capacity expansion plans to address the country's electricity supply needs for the future," said its acting chairman Mpho Makwana.

The board also thanked Izak du Plessis, Vule Nemukula and Elsie Pule for their diligence and hard work in their acting capacity as Finance Director and Managing Directors for Primary Energy and Human Resources respectively.
