Johannesburg - The sound of vuvuzelas is ringing throughout Ellis Park stadium as excitement mounts ahead of the 4pm FIFA Confederations Cup opener.

With only few hours left to the Confederations Cup match between South Africa and Iraq, the stadium has been painted with green and yellow.

The South African fans cannot wait any longer for their national team to come onto the field and show the Asian champions their skills.

The pitch is covered with a green and cream white plastic with the eight confederations cup national team's flags placed on the goal post south and north. An unforgettable opening ceremony is expected to get underway shortly.

On the north goal post is the Brazilian, Spanish, Italy flags, while on the other side is the New Zealand, United States of America, Egypt, South Africa and Iraq.

At the centre of the pitch is a roundavel house depicting an indigenous African home. Adjacent to it are small goal posts made of sticks.

On the eastern side stand, a FIFA flag is flying in between the South African and Iraq flags.

Two big screens have also been erected on both the north and south stands.

Around the precinct of the stadium, friendly volunteers and metro police officers are giving fans arriving at the stadium directions to their seats.

On the western stand, a small group of Iraqi fans are flying their country's flag and beating drums, while ecstatic South African fans are cheering, flying their countries flag and blowing and causing an amusement noise with their vuvuzela's.
